All members are invited to our Annual Meeting, where you'll have the chance to welcome new Board members and a new League president, and thank our outgoing president, Melinda Hamilton, for her inspired leadership.
Event Details
Members will be asked to vote on items that serve as the basis for the League's work -- the proposed slate of officers, the budget, the 2019-20 action plan, and revised bylaws.
We will be joined by guest speaker Dr. Winfred B. Moore, Jr., the Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Citadel. Dr. Moore is also the author of several articles on the history of the modern American South and the editor of six published books of essays, including, most recently, Toward the Meeting of the Waters: Currents in the Civil Rights Movement of South Carolina During the Twentieth Century which was selected for a Choice notable book award.
Dr. Moore's speech will be "Working With Our "Better Angels..." Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the Citadel in Recent Years." Drawing on the spirit and values of Abraham Lincoln's first inaugural address, Dr. Moore will speak to the changes within the Citadel and, among other things, the graduation of the first female regimental commander. Graduating in May and now commissioned in the United States Army, Sarah Zorn was in essence the head of the Citadel student body and led the corps' five battalions and 21 companies.
