Owner David Crowley made the announcement on Instagram yesterday afternoon. “It is with a heavy heart that today we announce The Alley’s last day of operations will be June 1st. With the property owners’ upcoming and imminent hotel development, the time has unfortunately come to close our doors permanently,” he wrote. The owners of the Columbus Street building got approval to demolish the property and replace it with a hotel back in 2021, but the Alley remained to entertain for a few more years. When it opened in 2012, the Alley was the first public bowling alley to appear in downtown Charleston since the ‘60s. But it wasn’t just bowling — there were arcade games, interesting cocktails, local beers, good food, sports on every television, and Bill Murray was a regular. “In our final weeks, we will work to ensure our people are taken care of to the absolute best of our ability and to serve many familiar faces,” said Crowley.
