SUSAN OLSON-- THE GIFT OF DREAMS IN THE MOURNING PROCESS

After the death of her daughter thirty years ago, Susan Olson had a series of healing dreams that prompted her to write a book about her experience. Her lecture will include several instances of dreams occurring during the various “stages of grief.” Illustrations of mythical journeys to the underworld will amplify the archetypal nature of grief and mourning. Following the lecture, there will be time to share comments, questions, and personal examples of grief dreams.Susan Olson grew up in Wisconsin and studied English literature at Smith College (1964) and the University of Wisconsin (1965). She receivedher M.S.W. from the University of Georgia in 1975 and practiced as a therapist for many years in Athens, GA. in 1986 she began her studies atthe C.G. Jung Institute (Zurich), graduating in 1992. Susan now practices in Atlanta and is affiliated with the Memphis/Atlanta seminar of the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts. She enjoys reading, writing, and teaching, and is the author of several articles, book reviews, and the book By Grief Transformed: Dreams and the Mourning Process (Spring, 2010).
