Description
On Thursday, June 27, we're handing our restaurant over to chefs BJ Dennis and Digby Stridiron for an Island Takeover dinner highlighting a menu of Sea Island and West Indian flavors -- a mashup of culture through food.
Event Details
Benjamin “BJ” Dennis IV was born and raised in Charleston and is known for his commitment to preserving the Gullah Geechee cuisine and culture of the descendants of West African slaves who settled on the coasts of South Carolina and Georgia, and on the Sea Islands. Dennis spent time in studying culinary traditions in St. Thomas before returning to the Lowcountry where he continues to study and share his knowledge of Gullah Geechee cuisine.
Originally from the Virgin Islands, St. Croix-born chef Digby Stridiron ran the kitchen at Balter, a fine-dining restaurant, on the island and was later named the U.S. Virgin Islands’ culinary ambassador, traveling the world promoting the islands and their cuisine. Recent years have been spent traveling the Caribbean: from Jamaica to try authentic jerk, to Trinidad to try doubles, to Barbados to try cou-cou and flying fish. On the heels of opening his own restaurant, Braata, in St. Croix, Digby is more committed than ever to honoring Caribbean cuisine and West Indian culture.
Reservations are recomended and this is a one night only event. Head to Resy to make a reservation or call 843-619-0202.
** Please not that we will NOT be serving our regular dinner menu during this event.**
